AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 75,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country’s critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment.
AmeriCorps opens the door for citizens to serve in a variety of ways. Through their service and the volunteers they mobilize, AmeriCorps members address critical needs in communities throughout America.

AmeriCorps has four general goals:
1.       Getting Things Done- help communities solve problems in the areas of education, public safety, the environment, and other human needs
2.       Strengthening Communities- help unite individuals from different backgrounds in a common effort to improve communities
3.       Encouraging Responsibilities- explore and exercise their responsibilities to their communities, their families, and themselves
4.       Expanding Opportunities- AmeriCorps helps those who help America by awarding funds to pay off student loans or further education, provide valuable job experience, specialized training and other skills
