AmeriCorps opens the door for citizens to serve in a variety of ways. Through their service and the volunteers they mobilize, AmeriCorps members address critical needs in communities throughout America.

AmeriCorps has four general goals:
1.       Getting Things Done- help communities solve problems in the areas of education, public safety, the environment, and other human needs
2.       Strengthening Communities- help unite individuals from different backgrounds in a common effort to improve communities
3.       Encouraging Responsibilities- explore and exercise their responsibilities to their communities, their families, and themselves
4.       Expanding Opportunities- AmeriCorps helps those who help America by awarding funds to pay off student loans or further education, provide valuable job experience, specialized training and other skills
